Up for sale is my VT100 mkII power amplifier from Audio Research. I have used this in conjunction with an Audio Research preamp to drive my Wilson Sophia 2 speakers with wonderful results. I am selling because I am moving to Europe, and I am parting ways with all of my electronics that run on 110 volts. I had no reason to sell this amplifier until this recent decision to move – it is an outstanding piece!
I have maintained it properly from the beginning of my time with this piece. When I bought it in 2012, I sent it to Audio Research for an overhaul. It was a good year, and I had money to spend, so I told ARC to give it the royal treatment. They did a diagnosis and tested it thoroughly. They replaced some resistors, a fet, all of the tubes, tube dampers, perfected the bias adjustment, swapped out the front panel for a brand new one in silver/natural finish so it matched the rest of my gear, and packed it in a brand new heavy duty shipping carton. This service was done in June of 2012 and it cost me $1,940. Money was flowing well that year, and I wanted to be sure my amplifier was in flawless health.
I sent it in again in September of 2015 for a follow up service. Audio Research replaced a jumper, cleaned the tube sockets, and did other general maintenance. You can be sure that this amplifier was well cared for. In my opinion, a tube amp needs to be kept in sound working order, and that is what I did. I have both receipts from Audio Research Service, and will include them with the amplifier.
In 2017, I checked the bias myself, prepared to adjust it if needed, but it measured perfectly and I did not adjust it.
The tubes that are included are the set that ARC installed for me in 2012. I listen to music on the amplifier on average a few hours per week, and to my ears, they have plenty of life in them. I will also include, if requested, the original set of tubes that were in the amp when I bought it. They more than likely have a fair bit of life left in them. I was just hell bent on overhauling and updating the amp when I got it, so I never used the tubes that came with it. They are yours for free if you want them.
The main set of tubes is packed inside the amplifier as Audio Research does, in foam enclosures for safety in shipping. When you receive this amplifier, you will remove the top cover and install the tubes – a very easy operation – all of the tubes are numbered.
UPS or FedEx Ground shipping to the continental USA is included, and you will not pay any of the seller fees that other sellers try to pass on to buyers. This amp may be priced a few dollars more than other versions of the same model number, but I think you’ll be hard pressed to find one that has been taken care of so well and with free shipping to boot! I am selling 5 electronic components and a handful of a cables. I made a video that shows all of my gear for sale, including this amplifier. Please have a look: https://youtu.be/k9rT4i9kw8o
