Pioneer PL-55X turntable was one of Pioneer’s offerings in the mid 70’s. It’s a very nice looking table The “X” designation was the PL-55 table with slightly better specs such as a strobe light, a low mass static balanced S shaped tonearm as well as an anti-skating mechanism, damped tonearm cueing and variable pitch controls. The original headshell with a Stanton 600 cartridge/E600 stylus play very well.
This is a very good performing table when maintained properly such as this one. It does have a few cosmetic issues. The cord was replaced by the original owner. The smoked dustcover has a 6.5″ crack that completely penetrated the cover, yet it is very presentable. You can see clearly through the dustcover it is not cloudy. Please view pictures. I wish that Pioneer used real walnut veneer on this table. It would have turned out beautiful. Instead of the inexpensive vinyl. I love the look of real wood. It’s still a very heavy turntable weighing in at nearly 30 pounds. It’s very well built and I’ve never had any problems with it.
